Amazon to announce UK version of Kindle as early as mid- October.

The rumour that just won’t go away, namely that Amazon are preparing to launch the long-awaited UK version of the Kindle is gathering pace and it’s suggested that it could be as early as the 8th October! The story broke on Bookseller.com on 30 September and, predictably, Amazon are staying tight lipped.

Amazon Kindle

It’s no secret that Amazon have been looking to get agreements with UK mobile networks in order to provide access to their Whispernet download service and it is thought that the deal has finally been done.

This means that customers in the UK will have full access to the company’s library of ebook titles with the ability to download purchases wherever there is a 3G signal.

No mention of prices as yet but it’s expected the Kindle will retail at around £200. The cost of new titles in the US is as little as $9.99 but it is anybody’s guess at this stage what the UK download price is likely to be?
