Sony have announced a third new eBook reader to compliment the eReader Touch and eReader Pocket Edition. The Sony Reader Daily Edition has a large 7” display and allows users to download books wirelessly via the 3G mobile network.
Hot on the heels of the release of the e Reader Touch and eReader Pocket Edition the new Sony Reader Daily Edition features a 7” display with a touch screen interface able to be viewed in either portrait or landscape formats.

In landscape mode the screen displays around 30-35 lines of visible text, making the reading experience very similar to that of a printed paperback book. With 16 levels of greyscale the text and images are crisp and easy to read. The body is made from durable aluminium and the device includes slots for external memory cards to increase the library’s capacity from around 1,000 titles to many times more.

Users of the Sony Daily Edition will also be able to download books wirelessly via the 3G mobile network. Users will be able to browse, download and buy electronic books as well as newspapers or when and where they want. There will be no monthly fees or transaction charges and users still have the option to load personal documents or content from other compatible sites via a USB connection. The device also includes a facility where users can download free eBooks from their local library which expire automatically after a set period of around 21 days.
Sony plan to release the Daily Edition eReader in the US in time for Christmas at a cost of around $399 (£250) but no announcement has been made as to when this version will be available in the UK.
